About

Cydney Camp (b. 1994, Detroit) lovingly deconstructs the figure to explore what it is to live.

She depicts Black, often femme, subjects existing in familiar, yet alternative realities. Her subjects continually come together and fall apart. Their multitude of identities and modes of being probe a nonlinear lived experience in real time. Distorted perspectives, abstract compositional strategies, and a sensorial color palette form immersive scenes that contemplate race, gender, sublime, and self.

Camp has exhibited across Michigan and New York, including at M Contemporary, Norwest Gallery, Louis Buhl, Library Street Collective, Reyes Finn, Detroit Fiber Works, 2022 SPRING/BREAK NYC and many more. Cydney lives and works in Hamtramck, Detroit.
